Our children are watching us.
By Brian Moore | Published  12/26/2006

As we look back at the actions of our ancestors, in years gone by, we have many things to be proud of and much to be sad about.

When we look at the infrastructure that has been created around the colonial world, there is a lot to appreciate. When we look at the negative, separating  and inhumane policies created by the rulers of our ancestors, there is much reason for regret.

That being said, I wonder how the future generations will view our actions and the legacies that we are preparing, each day.

We live in a country which is constitutionally free. But it is yet to become humanly free.

Our country is beset by tribalism, politicisation, nepotism, racism and general prejudice. With all the new positive tender procedures, these ugly aspects creep in....

Is s/he white, Spanish, Italian, Native American, black, Indian, coloured, Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana, Gay, Male, female, a member of our party, old, young, pretty, ugly, rich or poor, are amongst the questions asked. In City/ Hospital/ Police/ and other state service departments customers are treated well or badly, by virtue of their appearance.

Unfortunately many of the people, who were raised during Apartheid, are now operating out of the same paradigm. The people who are currently prejudiced, will depend upon the person serving them.

How will our leaders and everyday people, of today, be judged by our more human-focused descendants?

Let's take time to look back from 2060. And I am going to ask for your help here...

How will they view our attempts at:-
1) bringing about World peace
2) building equality and respect amongst all human beings
3) Protecting the environment and animal kingdoms
4) Reducing/ removing poverty.
5) Removing greed and corruption
6) Stopping crime, rape and violence
7) Ensuring that politicians governed for all people, not just their own followers
8) Educating, without bias, all the people of the world
9) Removing violent and dangerous leaders, in non-violent ways
10) Reducing over-population and building the World's resources.

Please add your comments, and we will publish those that add value to the discussion.

Unless we spend time looking at the answers to these many questions, we will just bumble on. A positive future, which is in our hands right now, will be denied our descendants.
