Testimonials

Many thanks again for the wonderful team building sessions we did with you, your beautiful wife (in all senses of the word) and your splendid team.

All the staff here are still on a positive high and it’s been so nice to bump into them and see them smile from ear to ear. They had such fun and learnt so much.

May the ancestors bless you all.

*****

It brought about a sense of completion, a sense of belongingness and togetherness, the spirit of humanity. It also shows us that people do take notice of our differences and are willing to go the extra mile to get to know each other and develop life-time friendship.

Comments from our Namibian delegates

What I learned best was the communication between the teams.

*****

I went home yesterday and taught my kid the exercises and she enjoyed it.

*****

Communication is the problem and we are used to talking in the language we understand. We don’t listen when people speak and the message will not get through.

*****
Also the Visual, audio and kinesthetic. It is important to know the level of the other persons understanding.

*****

Coming to this course, I know everybody’s name on the computer, but now I know their face.

*****
When I came, I came here as a supervisor, I was supposed to know how to give orders, communicate, but I came here and I learned a lot like VAK. To see how people act, behavior, after I enjoyed the course, it was beautiful.

*****

t I have leaned to communicate better, even with my juniors, seniors and the rest of the world. The whole of the course was better for me. Maybe after 2 or 3 years you guys can come and teach us again. I know these things are expensive, but if we deliver production, they will find the money.

*****

Thank you guys, you are doing an excellent job. I learned a lot. I haven’t been here long, but for us being able to open up in 2 days was a privilege in such a unique environment.

*****

First of all, you to guys for coming here. I enjoyed it. I didn’t know these gentlemen, now I know them. I learned that we never tell our problems but I leaned about problem solving. That we can get solutions.

*****

First of all I want to thank you for our team building.
I have learned about communication, now I know how to communicate with a person at work or general in a good manner or a different language.

*****

I learned about problem solving, finding someone with a problem and solve it. I can tell my friend my problem and he can help me solving it.
The three groups of VAK, I did not know, but because of team building I now know.

*****

I learned also to talk to the person face to face. Maybe I was afraid to talk to you, we have practiced talking face to face and to each and not be afraid. I think, it’s not me alone, but both of us have enjoyed a lot, most of the different things.

*****

I now know my colleague and I can say their names.

*****

Thank you for the chance to say. I want to thank the almighty God for bringing us all together, for the ideas, solving our problems and sharing ideas. We learned never remain silent, because sometimes the quiet ones who know how to solve problems but you are quiet.

*****

The VAK is like a pot, when you want to cook in the pot, you need the pot, water, fire, matches, if you are missing something, you cannot cook. If the one leg is broken the pot will fall. If the AGM is weak or there is something wrong we need advices and solve the problem.

*****

Try to make friendship and come close to those people, some people are having problems at work, we must have love for them and love our work to do things the way its supposed to be done.

*****

For those who are drinking must remember that there is a time for enjoyment and they must think of others at work. I pray for God to bless you people.

*****

You guys must come time and time again.

*****

Thank you very much for the team building and I learned a lot about going to work as a team. We were not really as a team at work.

*****

Thank you; because we learned to be one team and we go back to work we will understand each other. From here onwards we will be able to communicate nicely and understand each other.

*****
Thank you guys, Now we can stand together and solve the problem together and feel free, like we learned this morning and respect each others problems.

*****
Firstly I would like to start of by thanking God and to you for spending time here in Namibia, because everyone is here learning this valuable information.

*****

I learned a lot, like improving my communication skills, personality skills, how to approach them and I like you to come back and refresh us.

*****
I would like to thank you two guys. You teach us so we learned a lot and I don’t think we will forget. Please continue doing it as you do it for us. Please God must give you long life and bless you both.

*****
Thanks for the chance and for you two being with us. It is not easy to work together, but we learned a lot, it was powerful and I thank you and God Bless you.

*****

Thank you very much. Guys with these two days, I thank you for sharing with me and teaching me. We have learned from each other and when I was with my friends, I can know my problem and identify it and I can solve it.

*****

All of us are unique, it was strange for us Damaras to dance to a “Wambo” songs and now we have gained love for each other, it is not the same between us anymore.

*****
Communication was strange, planning and prioritizing is important. Big guys go to the site (foremen and supervisors) and tell what they want. But that’s a short cut. We need to say who will do it, how they will do it. I thank you for sharing this with us.

*****
I think I found the VAK and learning styles are very interesting and I think I can apply it to the work and home situation as well and it is a valuable lesson. I would like to learn more about it. In the work situation to identify people in the work and getting my message to them.

*****
I think also this one VAK what I learned yesterday... I think I can especially use it with my youngest; I have some idea about to go about it, and even in the workplace. I can even study my colleagues whether I am talking to him and body language and where he falls. When I give him an instruction and know he will follow it.

*****
Yesterday I learned this one, VAK maybe my supervisor talks very fast and I do not understand, maybe when I do not understand very well if you make a mistake and cause an accident and I know how to act in that environment. When I don’t use the right tools because my supervisor talks very fast and I do not understand very well and the mistakes come. I can improve by asking my supervisor about the right information.

*****
What I learned is to be free (to talk up) at the workplace.

What I learned from this is that I am a dictator and my family is going to benefit a lot because I realized that its important to share information and in the end everyone will get the one conclusion and once you have enter the house you think the kids are behaving but when you leave it is different.

*****
What I learned is basically to be more tolerant of other people and because we have different personalities we don’t always understand where they come from. I learned to adapt and be more tolerant and why this person is acting this way and the situation.

*****
What I learned I have to make use of my team members more often. I am capable but cannot do everything.

*****
For me, VAK was impressive, just to find out how my team really works and my approach those people. Another striking moment was the problem solution which is unique to that person. That is good. That means it leads us to understand we must approach our team members and respect what they can offer.

*****
I think that this was a very good learning curb, VAK was the best and know what to focus on and coming to problem solution I realize there are bigger problems out there. There are always someone with more problems out there, despite all what I am going through.

*****
Sometimes you make an issue before you go to that person. I would have chosen the wrong person to talk to but I learned that I should just feel free to talk to them and they will show me their personality.

*****
I found that I can talk fast and fast and fast but not everyone can understand and I learned a lot about it. Communication is very important and that is why I found ourselves in problem when someone doe’s not understand and passes the wrong message and it gets worse and worse and worse.

*****
Problem solving, you try to do the right thing but you haven’t ask the advice, Now we nee to try ourselves ands ask different people for advice.

*****
I also learned a lot from VAK and to listen to other people’s problem and not interfere. If you have something to say speak up and listen.

*****
Personally after I went back after the whole course I tested my cousins with VAK and she was laughing and I didn’t realize that through this she could also access the kids instead of wondering how to tell the kids to sit still. As far as VAK is concerned I have leaned how people communicate and I can first access that person and see how they should understand the plan and I know if they understand they can tell others as well.

*****
In the line of commu nication it is good and in groups my presentation would be in the visual form or audio or kinesthetic and they will understand and in that sense VAK is good, As for this morning, to get advice from young and old it helps, because my niece thinks I try to access the problem in my way, I can now do it in all four forms.

*****
When I go back, I must try for safety at the workplace. I learned Visual, Kinesthetic and to talk to someone and how to talk with him and explain him. Everything here, I am going to check the operators and how they are working with safety, everything, I will see if someone is missing something I am going to talk to the supervisor.

*****
What I learned so far communication wise, from today, I am going to speak up more. I am going to ask for people to help, instead of doing things on my own especially when I am stuck. If I don’t understand I am going to go back and ask.

*****
Perfectionists, I am going to practice not just doing something alone by myself. For this exercise I am very thankful, I have never known that someone else can help solve my problem.

*****
What I learned is how to say No and if someone asks me something I don’t have to say yes. That was a big problem, for me not saying what I wanted or what I should. Now I have learned how to be helpful and to talk.

*****
How to treat people, help more, I think I will work a lot better in the work place.

*****
I have to say many thanks to you all; you have come far to Namibia. I was thinking what this is, but it is something very important about the VAK. All the VAK touched me; I am going to keep it. When it comes to communication, it is always lacking here, I see yesterday the communication go wrong and when it comes to where I was standing and I mis-communicated. It is very, very important or the message will get destroyed.

New Year Message - A Rebirth

######

Our wonderful Namibian sojourn.
A Huge Transformational Teambuilding experience, in Paradise!

As we sit here, in our Johannesburg office, at our stunning new Namibian kiaat boardroom table, we can see an aerial photo of Oranjemund on the wall.

In the photo, the mist is sneaking in from the Atlantic ocean towards the village, it is already covering the shores of South Africa and Namibia and the huge mouth of the Orange river. Although we can't see them in the photo, we know that the wild Gemsbok stroll through the town and across the golf course, and the pink flamingoes line the Orange river estuary. It is here at certain times of the year that the fishing is excellent.

Somewhere in the town Oom Willie is making another half-length VW Bug! And Eloolos is delivering another wonderful Chicken Liver Peri-Peri pizza. Somewhere else Vainess and her team are delivering a SODEXHO meal.

Within the Oranjemund, the quality of life for all people, in particular for children, is outstanding! Small children roam the streets on their bicycles, and the town is practically crime-free. The absence of any car guards, shows just how safe the village is!

If I were looking for a place to settle and to build a career, I would apply for a position there.

Freedom is something which cannot be bought at any price! Add freedom to an amazing primary school, a wonderful private hospital, stunning sports facilities and a wonderful country!

Beyond the village our clients and friends are working to push back the mighty Atlantic ocean to secure the World's purest gems. In the ocean, ship-based crews are sucking ore-bearing soil from the gullies, to raise the once-Kimberley-based stones to the surface.

The history of this special place and the diamonds that are mined here, stretches back 100 years, when Zacharia Lewala found the first diamond in 1908.

Back to the photo, where we can see the various sports fields in the village, two of which doubled up as training rooms for the wonderfully inclusive Celebrating Humanity Transformational Teambuilding programme - Sida !Nans (Nama/ Damara for Our team).

Forever grateful!

We will always be grateful for the opportunity to work with the people of Namdeb Mining Corporation! They not only supply the most amazing gems to the world, they are an integral part of the economy and the development of Namibia, its people and the Southern African Development region.

How it came about

Our company was, one of three, invited to submit proposals in October 2005. Two companies, one from South Africa and another from Windhoek - Namibia were also invited.

In June 2006, I presented the Celebrating Humanity programme, in Oranjemund. My journey, which included a personal fact-finding mission, took 4 days - all in all - from Durban - South Africa. And each of the companies had only 20 minutes for their presentations!

We were well looked after, by HR Manager - Mellissa Shanjengange's team, in this very self sufficient community. And were delighted to be awarded the contract - a few months later!

Getting the Sida !Nans project going.

A new Training Manager, Pauline Thomas and AGM - Paul Sparks, took over the project and powerfully set us on track to begin an incredible transformational teambuilding program.

After a very successful pilot program it was decided that the program would be facilitated for all 2900 Namdeb team members. The programme kicked off in late June 2007, with 2 teams.  A week later our third team began training.

The T&D (Training and Development) team, of Pauline, Oom Henry, Martha Smith and Tanja Smith, kicked into top gear - and with their volunteer representatives from all areas of the mine, delivered teams to the training rooms, day after day!

And in Beautful Luderitz

In Luderitz, Tony Bessinger involved his teams and showed the incredible community side of Namdeb - by filling empty spaces with community and local business people. Tobias Pilatus - happily filled the rooms with Namdeb teams.

Africa's cleanest city.

Towards the end of Sida !Nans - we travelled from Luderitz to the capital of Windhoek. This beautiful city has to be the cleanest, best kept city in Africa! It is stunning! Our team, of Arthie and Sheetal - presented the program to a team from Namdeb's Head office. Thereafter we returned to Luderitz to close out the Elizabeth Bay program.

A first.

This was the first time that a training project of this magnitude was facilitated in Namdeb, or by our team. And when all was said and done it was an incredible success. Over 2250 people had been impacted in Namdeb, as had a large number of contractors and community members.

The delegates came from many different ages, histories, exepriences, qualifications and backgrounds:- mostly Namibian, of many varying backgrounds - Owambo, Caprivian, Herero, Nama, Damara, English, Afrikaans and German. We met Zimbabweans and Zambians and many South Africans - including a Zulu man named Hadebe!

Our teams

The 3 multi-diverse Mthimkhulu International teams of Brian and Amrith Haripersad, Arthie Moore and Sheetal Schneider, Fazal Bhayat and Sonja Wright facilitated the 3 teambuilds every two days. They were backed locally up by Suraj Haripersad and by Sholene Haripersad, in Durban.

Our teams have a unique ability, and commitment, to become a part of the communities, in which they find themsleves. We will fit in anywhere in the world, and make a difference!

Each one could greet in numerous local languages - including Oshiwambo, Oshiherero, Nama, Damara, German and Caprivian! The level and fluency of their spoken Afrikaans also rocketed to new heights!

The team's language skills also included Arabic, Zulu, Xhosa, Urdu, English and Gujerati!

Celebrating Humanity

And by their very nature, Celebrating Humanity programs build respect, accountability, motivation, communication, teamwork, understanding and unity within diverse teams. Where necessary the program is adjusted to work with conflicted teams - through the Values Circle progam - and the transformation is amazing!

One of the foundations of the programme was "Aantu oyeshi lya mwena, kayeshi lya mwena," an Owambo proverb - meaning "people know and help those who speak up, but not those who remain silent." This ensured a far greater participation from all levels of the teams.

This was a critical part of the programme, as much of the workforce had never attended training of this nature. And did they participate!

It was stunning to be a part of this programme and to experience the people of Namibia. The wisdom that we saw shine, from the least literate to the most educated delegate, was a revelation.

More Program Principles.

Some other principles, within the programme are:-

At the level of respect, all people are equal.

We all add to each other.

Life rewards action and not thought.

We all are valuable, bring value and are most happy/ successful when we recognise value in others.

Praise, guidance, understanding and support are the cornerstones to building relationships and teams.

Some areas covered

Areas covered, include the solution seeking, problem sharing, the amazing diversity of people, cultures, communication, languages and personalities.
And the wonder of human knowledge and understanding within an organisation. With respect this can go a very long way!

Feedback

There is an incredible amount of feedback - all positive. We have included some on the left and the words of two supervisors - below.
Please note that English is seldom the first, or even the second languae of the delegates. We have written their words verbatim.

"When I came, I came here as a supervisor, I was supposed to know how to give orders, communicate, but I came here and I learned a lot like VAK (Communication and relationship technique). To see how people act, behavior, after I enjoyed the course, it was beautiful."

"What I learned from this is that I am a dictator and my family is going to benefit a lot because I realized that its important to share information."

And on a cultural note

".. All of us are unique, it was strange for us Damaras to dance to a “Owambo” song and now we have gained love for each other, it is not the same between us anymore."

Celebrating Humanity Programs and Mthimkhulu International

In order to understand a little about us and how we facilitate transformational teambuilding, it may be necessary to visit our projects and info websites and glance through Teambuilding for Diverse Teams.

We firmly believe that we should always do more than we are paid for, and maintained this belief through our actions in Namibia.

Go and visit Namibia!

In order to understand the amazing people and the places that we went to, you would have to travel to Luderitz, Oranjemund and to Windhoek.

We had the good fortune to stay in a hotel in the sea, and watch seals and dolphins from our bedroom window.

We travelled through the south of Namibia and saw many amazing and wonderful sites, including wildlife, the feral horses of Garub watering point, diamond mines of earlier times, beautiful dunes and stunning seas.

We have tasted the oysters of Luderitz, listened and laughed at our stories, as they were told in the unique Nama/ Damara click languages and purchased a beautiful diamond at the Historic Ghost Town of Kolman's Kop!

On our travels, we invested in Namibia by buying our 4 poster king-sized bed, a beautiful desk, a 2.2m high cabinet and our 12 seater boardroom table from Seeheim Furniture at Seeheim hotel.

We have yet to experience the North of Namibia - and we WILL!

Arthie and I sincerely recommend that anbody who can, must make Namibia a destination of choice, at least once in their lifetime! And if you can't - find a way!

Via Namibia! Viva the people of Namibia and Viva Namdeb. (And Viva our teams!)

A Poem sent to the people of Namdeb

Ondapandula uunene, Namdeb! From Mthimkhulu International 22/12/2007

Koree, motshavi, walale po, goeie more, Humela, Morokeni,
Guten morgan, mwa buka, Matisa, Hello, Dumela!
Viva Namdeb! Viva Namibia! Viva Afrika! VIVA!

We have been touched forever,
by the people of Namdeb and Namibia,
By the heart and soul
of this warm and wonderful land.

We still dance to the rhythm of Namibia,
From Tate Kwela, to Nama stap,
To Piki-piki and Oshinima.
Kwasa-kwasa, Zemburuka and volkspele course through our veins.

Our mind’s eye will forever
keep images of Namibia pure,
The sheer beauty of the deserts and savannahs,
are stamped into our souls. The seals and Dolphins of Luderitz
will frolic forever in our memories.
As will the dance of the boats in the bay,
and the hotel “in the sea.”

The seawall and the winter seas,
Are an awesome show of man’s ingenuity,
And the Namdeb team’s courage,
Against the sheer power of Nature!

We will always remember,
The windblown airport,
The mouth of the Orange river,
And the Gemsbok wandering in town.

As we travelled through the South,
We wondered at the savannahs and dunes,
The communal weaver nests,
The tenderised Kudu steaks.

And Sossusvlei’s dunes,
The feral horses of Garub,
Keetman’s Giant’s Playground
And Quiver Tree Forest.

We have experienced the warmth and the love,
and the safety in your streets,
we have lived the Namibian dream
and nothing will ever be the same!

Yes! We have been touched by the people, of Namibia,
And this wonderful land.
We wish you a incredible New Year!
Viva Namdeb and Namibia. Viva! VIVA!

Ondapandula uunene! Baie dankie! Tangi! Thank you!
